Any True Socialists Out There?
Tell a socialist who just dug a 3-foot trench for 10 straight hours in the blistering sun that he’s only going to receive a dollar in payment because his co-worker, who did the precise same amount of work, is poorer than the socialist and therefore will receive the rest of the money. At that moment, that socialist will become a capitalist, even if temporarily.
Because Socialists don’t advocate for the abolition of the wage system. Nope, not at all.
If we’re going to go into hypotheticals here’s the correct one: The socialist would have dug a 3-foor trench for 10 straight hours (if for some reason we didn’t decrease the work-day) he would return to his own home, with enough food on the table, assurance that he will have healthcare when he needs it, or any other material good for that matter. His coworker could go home to the same. There are some things that are scarce though, and instead of how it is now - the scarce things go to the rich, the poor have to do without - everybody would get a share, but you might have to wait for those precious things, instead of getting them instantly if you can pay.
OP: I work my ass off about 9 hours a day five or more days a week doing very technical work while other people at my place of work think nothing of scheduling a two hour meeting the next day because they’re not busy and they don’t have any real commitments work-wise. I get paid grocery store wages. They get paid firmly middle-class-or-higher wages. They get health care and paid vacation. I get nothing.
The situation with them not really working would be merely annoying if my compensation equaled theirs. Instead, I get shat upon.
I am a “true” socialist, as you put it.
I believe that every human on earth has the right to food, shelter, clothes, medical care, as much education as they have an interest in acquiring, and to be free of exploitation … regardless of how much they are able or willing to work.
There are, to the best of my knowledge, no meritocracies so your example is farcical at best.
